Sioelan Tjoa
BSc, MSc, MACP (Member of the CSP, AACP, OCPPP and HPC regulated) Sioelan was studying Human Exercise Physiology at the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam when she was introduced to the Physiotherapy program at the Hogeschool van Amsterdam. As she was most fascinated by the practical skills and job prospects, she decided to train to become a physiotherapist, while finishing her Masters degree in Exercise physiology and Sports Psychology. Sioelan qualified as a physiotherapist in 1992 and obtained her Masters degree in 1991. She then worked in numerous private practices, nursing homes and rehabilitation clinics in the Netherlands. Unsatisfied with the stagnating clinical development in the physiotherapy profession Sioelan moved to the UK in 1996 where she worked as a locum initially. Her love for rock climbing and fell walking encouraged her to settle down in Cumbria and work for the NHS. Always eager to learn more she then started the prestigious MACP course (specialist course in manual therapy) as part of the Post Graduate Physiotherapy MSc course at Glasgow Caledonian University. Sioelan enjoys sharing her knowledge and clinical skills with colleagues (physiotherapists and osteopaths) and provides clinical placements for undergraduate physiotherapy students and is actively involved in the GP trainee training scheme in Lancaster. Sioelan’s field of interest is postural and movement analysis, muscle imbalance, manual and manipulation therapy, acupuncture, reactivation and pain/ stress management. Sioelan enjoys unravelling the most complex cases. Apart from work Sioelan has always been keen on various sports activities and at present she enjoys long mountain bike rides with good hills followed by fast or technical singletrack trails.
